Sports Post - USF Men's Basketball

I'll be focusing on USF men's basketball. This year's team has low expectations because most of last year's talent has departed, whether that's via graduation or by transferring. However, the Dons are off to a 3-1 start this season.

(I would've posted this sooner, but I was at Sonoma for the weekend, and the wifi reception there is extremely poor.)

Civic Media Politics Blog Post -- Mayor Ed Lee's Next Term

Hi everyone!

I'm going to be writing a story that will evaluate Mayor Ed Lee's time in office thus far, and what he intends to do during his next term now that he's been re-elected. In the past, he has put a contradictory emphasis on both affordable housing (particularly for immigrants) and his support for the growing tech industry in SF. This should pair nicely with Alex's story on AirBnb.

Here's a link to a recent article on the Mayor: http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/S-F-Mayor-Ed-Lee-s-career-arc-from-activist-to-6599763.php

And to his detailed 2015 agenda: http://www.mayoredlee.com/agenda

More to come!

Production Project Breakdown

Hello everyone --

Here are the ideas that we talked about in class this morning.

We want to create a news aggregator, while also writing our own stories on the subtopic that we've signed up for. Each person is responsible for writing one story on said subtopic, and aggregating three stories from other reputable news sources that represent civic media in the Bay Area. We will also contribute to one final post at the end that explains our writing methods and why we use those methods: our angle, our audience, our voice, our sources, etc.

Here are the five subtopics and the people who signed up for each:

-Politics: Alex, Katie
-Sports: Danny, Ethan
-Food: Brittany, Rebekah
-Entertainment/Culture: Kathryn, Salina
-Environment: Lazos, Deborah

We should have 40 stories total across the website. I'm working on finding a way to create tabs within the blog, so that we can better organize our subtopics. In the meantime, label each story you post (either by another media organization or you) with the sub-theme that we're focusing on. These labels will make specific stories easier to find and categorize the stories on our blog until I figure out how to section them better. Look at the right-hand side bar when you're submitting your stories to find the "labels" option, and be sure to assign your story to the right label group.

Mention in the title of your article that a student wrote it so Prof. Kidd can tell which ones we wrote ourselves.

Let me know if we should change or add anything! Collaboration is important :)
